Today it is almost impossible to find an individual who never suffers from sleeplessness, at least once in his life. Everybody knows this unpleasant feeling when he is lying in full darkness and silence, and the minutes seem like hours. A person is turning and even counting sheep fails to help and a person cannot fall asleep even if he wants to sleep very much. Usually, a person fall asleep in the dawn, but in few hours it is time to wake up. After sleepless night a person feels like a zombie for the whole day, thinking of having a nap only.
The reasons of sleeplessness can be different. Nervous stresses lead to sleepless nights, especially if a person always thinks over the day events and unpleasant moments before sleeping. If something unpleasant or very important is expected to be on the next day, a person can spend the first half of the night thinking of possible event scenarios and worry about it.
Sleeplessness can be caused by small disorders of the brain activity. This form is often observed in senior people who wake up before the dawn and can’t fall asleep any more.
Sleeplessness, especially if it is experienced for several nights exhausts very much, physically and psychologically. A person becomes very irritable, can get angry due to nothing.
People tried to find for long any remedy to fight against this disease.
Many thousand years ago Assyrians tried to fight against sleeplessness with belladonna herb, and Egyptians used opium for this purpose. In India somnolent action of alcohol was discovered used and as remedy from sleeplessness, and as anesthetizing drug.
Later different remedies have been tried in sleeplessness treatment which anyhow may affect activity of the central nervous system, leading to relaxation. Even today the quantity of different medications which people use to fall asleep and have a rest in the night remains significant. Not all these medications are designed only for sleeplessness treatment, for example, clonidine is applied first of all to lower arterial pressure, and Dimedrol as a drug to treat allergy reaction. But a hypnotic effect of these medications is evident and they are quite often taken to get rid of sleeplessness.
There are medications specially developed to fight against hypererethism of nervous system and to provide deep sleep. Ambien (Zolpidem) is related to these medications.
Today Ambien is one of the best medications from sleeplessness, especially from its most common form – periodic. It is sleeplessness which isn’t experienced permanently, arising from time to time, more often due to nervous stress. For these cases the drug with fast action is required. The drug action is observed very quickly and in the morning any drowsiness does not remain, and it doesn’t any side-effects so peculiar to other hypnotic medications. For this reason only Ambien is used in the USA air force so that pilots could have a rest well before a responsible assignment.
Ambien is considered to be the best medication for sleeplessness also because it is not characterized by very common effect of many old generation hypnotic medications – nightmares difficult to get rid. Other hypnotic medications influence on the so-called phase of active dream, the period when we have dream, increasing it very much. It is unclear why, but in this case we often see nightmares, and it is hard to wake up as a person is under hypnotic action. Ambien doesn’t cause similar adverse effects, it influences only on a slow phase when a person is resting.
Ambien is good for healthy adult people, and for senior people, so often suffering from sleeplessness. It doesn’t cause any harm to an organism and doesn’t cause addiction so Ambien use is safe.
